Willis Reed was born in Hico, Louisiana, and led his team to three Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships while he was a student at Grambling State University. From there, the New York Knicks drafted him. He quickly made a name for himself with the team, winning Rookie of the Year honors, and being named to the All-Star team. He played for the Knicks for the next ten years, and in combination with Walt Frazier, made the Knicks one of the most successful defensive teams of all time. He won NBA MVP honors in 1970, and is a seven-time NBA All-Star. With the Knicks, he won two NBA Championships. He went on to coach at various universities and for the New York Knicks. He served as the Knicks' General Manager from 1989-1996, and then their Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations until 2003. He spent three years as Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Saint Louis Hornets, before retiring in 2007.
