After multiple games where he struck out between 13 and 25 players, the Brooklyn Dodgers came calling. He signed with the Dodgers in 1949, and spent the next few years on various minor league teams. In 1954, he began playing for the Dodgers. He subsequently played for the Kansas City Athletics, as well, and then shifted his focus to coaching and management.
