Australian Real Estate Developer John Boyd's $66 Million Sydney Penthouse

A lavish penthouse in Sydney, Australia belonging to developer John Boyd, is reportedly attracting interest from buyers from far outside Australia, according to a recent News.com.au report. But if those American buyers actually want to secure the lavish residence, they'll need plenty of money to do it, since it's being listed for some $66 million.

Almost certainly of greater interest for our purposes, are the details of this abode, however. It sits at the top of Sydney's 43-story ANZ Tower, with three of those stories belonging to the penthouse. It measures in at nearly 26,000 square feet, with views of both the Sydney skyline and the nearby harbor described as "magnificent." There's an even more magnificent view from the roof, which will be all the better to enjoy thanks to the rooftop pool.

The formerly "secret" penthouse was first put up for sale back in March, but the difficulties of purchasing such a lavish home, particularly internationally, have resulted in no buyer being found as yet. At the $66 million price, it's the most expensive apartment in all of Australia, and the "sky mansion" has also been called one of the finest homes in all the world. One party said to be interested in the penthouse lives in New York City, and Bill Malouf of LJ Hooker Double Bay explained why even those with the money to afford such a home might find it a little difficult to acquire:

"He said to me this is perfect — I'd love to put it in the family… So I put him in touch with a property lawyer, but unless you've got a trading company or a son or daughter living in the country it's very difficult."

With four bedrooms and five baths, there's no shortage of rapturous praise for its luxury in every facet of its design. Check out the official description from the Christie's International Real Estate YouTube channel:

"An ambitious work of pure genius that took four years to complete, Australia's most prestigious penthouse, 'The Boyd Residence', is the crowning glory of the internationally awarded ANZ Tower in the heart of Sydney's CBD."

A home like that pretty much has to be seen for itself, which you can do so by checking out the video tour below from Christie's International Real Estate below.

And Jenny Saville became the most expensive living female artist after one of her works sold for $12.4 million, but that was outside the top 100 most expensive paintings of the year.

Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images

The 10 Most Expensive Classic Cars At Auction In 2018

$
0
0

In the classic car world, 2018 was a pretty busy year. There have been a few record sales, and American cars made inroads in a field dominated by European cars with two slots on the top ten most expensive classic car auction sales of the year. Here's a brief rundown on those ten sales.

1932 Alfa Romeo Tipo B Grand Prix Monoposto: $5.8 Million

The oldest car on this list, this prewar 1932 Alfa Romeo single seater is among the most prestigious cars the brand ever built.

1985 Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar: $5.95 Million

Contrariwise, this Porsche is the vehicle of the most recent vintage to make the top ten, but experts say that more and more younger automobiles will make lists like these as we go further into the future.

1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France: $6.6 Million

BEN STANSALL/AFP/Getty Images

Still, most of the cars on this list are from the golden age of automobiles, like between the years 1956 and 1959, when this model won the race it was named after four years in a row (the one pictured above is a 1959 model).

1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale: $8.1 Million

This car is a subtly different demonstration model than the Ferrari that eventually went into production, used mostly in auto shows.

1966 Ford GT40 Mk II: $9.8 Million

THOMAS SAMSON/AFP/Getty Images

The less expensive of the two American cars on the list, this Ford GT40 Mk II joined its fellow Le Mans '66 alums in 2016 at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Élégance.

1961 Aston Martin MP209 DB4GT Zagato "2 VEV": $13.3 Million

A one-shot Aston Martin race car from the brand's 60s superspy heyday, this car briefly held the record for most expensive Aston Martin at auction until another car on the list beat it out.

1963 Aston Martin DP215 Grand Touring Competition Prototype: $21.5 Million

This, as you probably already figured out, is the car that beat the previous one's record for most expensive Aston Martin.

1935 Duesenberg SSJ: $22 Million

The other American car on this list has a particularly famous first owner: Hollywood star Gary Cooper.

1956 Ferrari 290 MM: $22.005 Million

Andrew Burton/Getty Images

Just edging out the previous car by a measly five grand is this former Scuderia Ferrari team car driven by such racing luminaries as Phil Hill, Olivier Gendebien and Peter Collins.

1962 Ferrari 250 GTO: $48.4 Million

JACK GUEZ/AFP/Getty Images

The most expensive classic car of the year is this stone classic, one of just 33 of its kind ever made.

Jim Harbaugh Has Made Nearly $790,000 Per Win At Michigan

$
0
0

When Jim Harbaugh was hired four years ago, the University of Michigan hoped he'd lead them back into the national spotlight. And Michigan has played well during Harbaugh's tenure, winning 10 games in three of his four seasons. As a result, the school has been ranked in the AP Top 25 in 50 of 59 weeks with Harbaugh at the helm.

But with how much the school is paying Harbaugh, Michigan probably expected at least one playoff appearance. Between his salary and a creative life insurance policy, Harbaugh has earned $30 million from the university, or about $789,474 per win.

Instead, Harbaugh and the Wolverines have produced disappointing numbers in big games.

Despite a 38-14 record overall, Michigan is 1-3 in bowl games since Harbaugh took over. After a win in 2015, the team has lost three straight postseason games, including a 41-15 drubbing against Florida this season.

Jamie Sabau/Getty Images

Perhaps even more discouraging, Harbaugh has yet to win a game against Ohio State. He's the first Wolverines coach ever to lose his first four starts against the Buckeyes. That's made it seven consecutive losses for Michigan when playing its hated rival.
