Floyd Mayweather Just Mocked 50 Cent's Net Worth In The Most Brutal Way Possible

0
0

Floyd Mayweather and 50 Cent used to be best friends. They traveled on jets together to exotic parties. They gambled together. They trained together at Floyd's gym. At one point there was even talk of 50 and Floyd starting a boxing promotions company accompanied by a 50/Floyd reality show. On some of Floyd's biggest fight nights, 50 was front and center leading the boxer's entourage from the locker room to the ring, microphone in hand. The day Floyd finished serving a 90 day sentence for domestic battery, guess who was waiting for him outside the jail with a limo, a million dollars cash in a suit case and a private jet full of gas? 50 Cent. It was a match made in heaven for two extremely wealthy guys with lots of free time and very similar extracurricular activities. Then, for some reason, their relationship fell apart.

The Feud:

The first sign that all was not well on the Jackson-Mayweather bromance came in November 2012 when 50 sent out a tweet announcing that he was "no longer down with with Floyd Mayweather or involved in their partnership, TMT Promotions" (The Money Team). 50 also claimed that Floyd owed him $2 million that he invested in TMT Promotions.

Over the last few years, the two former friends have waged a war over social media. A war that has mainly consisted of periodic embarrassing jabs over Instagram or Twitter. For example, there was the time when Floyd tweeted a photo of 50 holding his boxing belts with the caption "A male boxing groupie.. hold my belts because your album sales have declined".

There was the time in 2014 when 50 claimed in an Instagram post that Floyd can't read. 50 went so far as to challenge Floyd to go on Jimmy Kimmel and read one page of a Harry Potter book out loud. If he successfully read the page, 50 said he would donate $750k to charity.

And then, not surprisingly, Floyd wasn't exactly respectful when 50 Cent was forced to file for personal bankruptcy in July 2015 after he lost two very large legal judgments in a matter of weeks.

I actually thought their feud had run its course and died out. I was wrong.

Last week, after it was revealed that Floyd had spent $18 million on a watch, 50 took to instagram to point out that this might not have been the wisest investment: "Man they found the 1 ni**a in the world, dumb enough to buy that watch. LOL get the strap." Btw, if you haven't seen this $18 million watch yet, please click here now and watch the video. It's unreal.

A few days go by and then earlier today, Floyd Mayweather posts the following to Instagram:

As you can see, on the left side of the post Floyd has photoshopped an image of a rat on top of an image of very sick-looking 50 Cent. I don't really understand the backstory of the rat stuff, but I do understand Floyd pointing out 50 Cent's current net worth of $20 million. On the right side of the post there's an image of the watch that Floyd just bought for $18 million. The not-so-subtle jab is that Floyd's watch is nearly as valuable as 50 Cent's entire current net worth. As in, Floyd almost has an entire 50 Cent on his wrist.

Ouch.

Break out the popcorn, because this feud is back and hotter than ever!

Richard Branson Shares A Letter With His Teenage Self

A recent blog post by Virgin CEO and billionaire Richard Branson is based on that old daydream chestnut, what you would say to your teenage self if you could somehow reach back in time and communicate with them. Of course, if I were Richard Branson, I'd be concerned about possibly messing the timestream up and somehow preventing myself from becoming a massively successful businessman, but that's probably taking things a bit too literally.

In the blog post, Branson addresses an open letter to his "younger dyslexic self." But the letter is really directed towards anyone who might in the present be struggling with dyslexia, as he explains in his introduction:

"It's really important that we provide young people with the support they need to succeed, and to understand dyslexia as a different and brilliant way of thinking. That's why I support Made By Dyslexia, a charity dedicated to changing the stigma around dyslexia."

To that end, the elder Branson shared with his younger self — who dropped out of high school at age 16 — some advice that can probably apply to a lot more young people today:

"I know you have problems with reading, writing and spelling and sometimes find it tricky to keep up in class. This does not mean you are lazy or dumb. You just think in a more creative way and struggle to find the relevance in school. Just make sure you turn your frustration with education into something positive."

Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images

Branson goes on to share the important wisdom that having dyslexia doesn't mean you're not capable of important achievements and accomplishments in life:

"You might not realise it, but there are many, many other people out there that struggle at school in similar ways to you and many of them have gone on to invent or create wonderful things."

One gets the distinct sense in reading the letter that Branson feels he was well on his way towards discovering these bits of wisdom on his own as a teenager, but obviously they're still worth sharing, even though they can't actually be beamed back into the past — unless there's some top secret time travel technology at Virgin that hasn't been made public yet.

Barack Obama Says He's "Surprised By How Much Money" He Has

Former President Barack Obama delivered a speech in Johannesburg, South Africa earlier this week, to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the birth of former South African President Nelson Mandela, who passed away in 2013. In it, the subject of wealth inequality in the United States came up, and Obama said, with some mixture of humor and sincerity, that even he is "surprised" by how much wealth he's been able to accumulate over the course of his life.

The Hill reports that during his speech Obama went on to say that a person of his wealth or even much greater riches should be more than happy to be taxed at higher marginal rates in order to help those less fortunate:

"There's only so much you can eat. There's only so big a house you can have. There's only so many nice trips you can take … I mean, it's enough. You don't have to take a vow of poverty just to say, 'Let me help out a few of the other folks' … Let me look at that child out there who doesn't have enough to eat or needs some school fees — let me help them out. I'll pay a little more in taxes … It's OK, I can afford it. I mean, it shows a poverty of ambition to just want to take more, and more, and more, instead of saying, 'Wow, I've got so much, who can I help? How can I give, more, and more, and more?'"

Obama's statements on greed are part of what was his biggest public speech since he left office at the beginning of 2017. And on the subject of wealth, he also made a direct reference to ways to close wealth gaps not just within individuals but between different countries as well.

And when he said he can afford to pay a little more taxes, he wasn't kidding. He and wife Michelle are reported to have pulled in somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 million between 2005 and 2016, mostly through book deals but also through public speaking engagements.

The NFL Has A List Of Billionaire "Tiger Cubs" That Could Buy Teams In The Future – And It Just May Change How The League Operates

0

It's safe to say the NFL sometimes has trouble with its image. Whether it's creating vague rules around player protests, dragging a deflated ball scandal out for more than a year, or still not being entirely sure what constitutes a catch, it can seem like the league doesn't always have the right plan.

One area that's meticulously planned, though, is the sale of teams. In fact, the NFL has a list of billionaires who could potentially buy a team.

A common theme of the names on this list? They all have extensive financial backgrounds. Essentially, the NFL wants owners that would run teams with professionalism and minimal emotion. They don't want any kind of family drama – which has occurred with past owners.

Cindy Ord/Getty Images for American Institute For Stuttering

Ideally, the NFL would like its owners to manage teams like multibillion dollar assets. Even just 20 years ago, most franchises were worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Today, every single team is valued at more than a billion and a half dollars.

The league had a strong preference for new Panthers owner David Tepper. Tepper, a hedge fund manager, has more than 35 years of experience in the financial world. And he's certainly not hurting with money – he once earned $2.2 billion in one year.

These "Tiger cubs" are named for Bill Goodell, brother of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Bill spent years working at New York hedge fund Tiger Management. Bill worked with several men who had the means and desire to buy an NFL team.

To some, the NFL micromanaging the ownership of teams could seem like a negative. But having a curated list of folks who can help the league grow even bigger is good for business. And at the end of the day, in the NFL's eyes, that's the most important thing.
