Stan Lee Seeks Restraining Order Against Jailed Business Manager

Stan Lee's business manager, Keya Morgan, has been arrested and accused of filing a false police report. He was released on $20,000 bail. Last week, Lee posted a short video saying that Morgan is the only person he trusted to deal with his business. In it, Lee said:

"It has come to my attention that many people contact other companies or other people trying to get in touch with me. I just want to go on the record as saying I have only one partner, only one person that represents me and that's Keya Morgan. Anybody else who claims to be my rep is just making that story up. I just want to put it on the record. If you want me, call me, if you can't get me, call Morgan. The two of us are working together and conquering the world side-by-side."

Today, Lee asked for a restraining order against Morgan.

Charley Gallay/Getty Images

Morgan's arrest is believed to be related to a police report from earlier this month when the LAPD was called to Lee's house to check out a report of an assault. At the time, a spokesperson for the LAPD said:

"Officers were called to a property on the 9100 block of Oriole Way at 7.30pm after reports of an assault. It was claimed that a suspect had a gun and was threatening. Officers detained two individuals that matched the description and an investigation is ongoing. Three units are still on scene including officers and detectives."

The police said that one or both of the armed men had been hanging around Lee's Hollywood Hills home the day before. The men claimed Lee owed them money.

That apparently was a lie perpetrated by Morgan. Keya Morgan is also Donald Trump Jr.'s business manager.

Paula Hawkins Had To Borrow Money To Write "Girl On The Train" Last Year She Made $53,000 PER DAY

Ah, it's a dream for a writer to go from struggling journalist to writing a book, selling that book, having a film made out of that book, and sitting back and watching the money roll in. That's what happened to Paula Hawkins, the author of The Girl On The Train. Last year she made $53,253 from book and film royalties. Does that not sound like a lot? Oh, that's because we forgot to add that she made $53,253 PER DAY last year. The 45-year-old author went from a struggling, unknown writer to a New York Times bestselling writer nearly overnight. The Girl On The Train was then adapted into a critical and box office hit film starring Emily Blunt. Hawkins basically ticked off every box on a writer's bucket list with this one book.

All in all, Paula Hawkins made $19.4 million in 2017. In 2016, she made $17 million. That's a heck of a turn around for a writer who had to borrow money from her dad so that she could pay the bills, survive and finish writing the book that would make her famous.

JOHN MACDOUGALL/AFP/Getty Images

Her earnings are enough to make Hawkins the seventh highest paid author in the world. Oh and according to her corporation's accounting records, she spent $16,774 on clothing and just under $3,600 on books and subscriptions.

Prior to the success of The Girl On The Train, Hawkins was a struggling financial journalist before writing four chick-lit novels under the pen name Amy Silver. Those books did not make Hawkins enough money to live on. And then she sold an unfinished novel to a publisher. The Girl On The Train was half done when her agent brokered the deal for the story about Rachel, an alcoholic commuter on a train who watches the houses she travels past and becomes obsessed with one of the couples she sees along the way.

The Girl On The Train became a 2016 film starring Emily Blunt in the role of Rachel. Justin Theroux, Lisa Kudrow, and Allison Janney had supporting roles in the film. The novel was also turned into a stage play.

Hawkins was born in Zimbabwe and got her degree at Oxford. She released her second novel Into the Water in 2017.

Puma Is Making A Return To Basketball In A Major Way

$

When you think of basketball shoes, the first thing you probably think of is Nike. Despite some competition from other companies brand with the Swoosh logo, along with its Jordan Brand line has had a stranglehold on the basketball shoe market for decades. But one company that has been out of the basketball game for two decades is making a big splash in its return to the hardwood.

Puma, one of the world's oldest sportswear companies, has made a string of moves over the course of the past week in an effort to return to prominence on the basketball court. Last week, the German company surprised many after news outlets reported that Marvin Bagley III, a likely Top 5 pick in this week's NBA Draft, signed a 5-year deal with Puma. The signing marked the first time Puma signed a basketball player to an endorsement deal since Vince Carter in 1998 (Carter left Puma for Nike just a year later).

But Bagley's signing was just the beginning. On Monday, Puma announced a series of moves that will undoubtedly put some pressure on its competitors.

The company announced Monday that they had signed Deandre Ayton, projected by many to be the top pick in this week's NBA Draft, to a four-year, multimillion-dollar footwear and apparel deal. When asked about the deal, Ayton referenced his Bahamian upbringing as to why he signed with Puma. "Puma is pretty popular in the Bahamas," said the 19-year-old. "I've always seen the brand growing up. [Bolt] is one of the first people I saw with the brand. It's important to me that someone I identify with and admire as an athlete is with the same brand."

(Harry How/Getty Images)

In addition to signing Ayton, the company signed one of the most important athletes in its history; Walt "Clyde" Frazier, to a lifetime deal. The New York Knicks legend and the namesake of the legendary Puma Clyde shoe, was in attendance at an event at Puma Basketball HQ in Brooklyn where he signed the deal.

When talking about the Puma Clyde, Frazier said, "I came up with a lighter shoe, a little more padding on the inside and that was the beginning of the Puma Clyde and the shoe has been timeless. During my career I endorsed Puma and then there was a lull in the action. Then, the breakdancers brought it back. After that fling, the retro craze brought it back. Here we are 40-some years later — I'm still synonymous with Puma Clyde and passing the tradition on to younger guys."

The best news though, was arguably saved for last. Adam Petrick, Puma's global director of brand and marketing, had originally stated in an interview on Monday that Jay Z would serve as the President of Basketball Operations. But he later clarified his statement, telling ESPN, "I can confirm that according to his deal with Puma, Jay-Z's official designation is creative director … I referred to him [earlier] today by an informal designation."

Jay Z's responsibilities with Puma will involve working with art direction for Puma's shoes, in addition to shaping the general concept of the company's basketball division. He reportedly will not be involved with choosing players for sponsorship deals.

All in all, Puma is making major moves.

Cristiano Ronaldo Has Reached A Settlement In Tax Evasion Case

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to a $21.8 million fine and two-year, suspended prison sentence for tax evasion in Spain. He was accused of defrauding Spanish tax authorities of $17.2 million last June. The Portugal FC star admitted his guilt in the case in exchange for a reduced penalty. Because this is his first offense, he will not serve any time behind bars. The same day the tax sentence was announced, Ronaldo scored a hat trick in the Portugal vs. Spain game. Take that Spain!

Ronaldo, considered to be the best soccer player in the world, originally denied the charges against him. In exchange for admitting to four tax offences, prosecutors agreed to reduce the amount he had to pay back from $17.1 million to $6.6 million. The rest of the amount Ronaldo is required to pay the Spanish government is due to interest and fines.

Ronaldo is currently playing for Portugal at the World Cup in Russia. Portugal kicked off World Cup play against longtime rival Spain. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. As mentioned above, Ronaldo scored a hat trick, so all three of Portugal's goals were scored by him.

Portugal is the current European champion.

Cristiano Ronaldo has a net worth of $450 million.

Roseanne Has Reportedly Agreed To Give Up $100 Million In Future Profits To Allow Spin-Off Series "The Conners"

$

When Roseanne Barr's social media antics finally went far enough to get ABC to cancel the highly successful renewed version of her classic sitcom, many fans began speculating whether a show about the Conners could continue without the family's famous (and now infamous) matriarch. One obstacle towards this has been that any traditional agreement would still direct profits (and probably a lot of profits at that) to Roseanne, which at least one of her former co-workers, ex-showrunner Whitney Cummings, has cited as a reason any such reboot would be a bad idea, telling TMZ:

"I don't really have words at the moment, but maybe they can salvage the legacy in some way. But if it benefits [Barr] financially … it's a bad move."

But an anonymous source reportedly close to Roseanne tells Page Six she has an alternate plan, to give up any such profits which would normally be hers in order for those she worked with on the show could keep working with their consciences clear:

"Roseanne feels so bad about her antics she is trying to figure out a way to help people harmed by the cancellation. She's considering giving up financial and creative participation in a spinoff so the people she loves can have jobs. Barr holding on is a stumbling block."

Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images

Roseanne herself hasn't commented directly on this rumored plan, but she did post a tweet recently that could have been a reference to the idea:

"I'm making restitution for the pain I have caused."

What that actually means is anyone's guess, but agreeing to give up significant profits from a Roseanne spin-off could be a good PR move for the comedian in addition to a way to get any such potential project — reportedly likely to center on Sara Gilbert's character Darlene — off the ground.

By our estimation, Roseanne would need to agree to give up AT LEAST $100 million in future syndication profits by removing herself from the show. That figure assumes the spin-off is successful enough to reach syndication which is still a big obstacle. Although, not an impossible obstacle given the popularity of the recent reboot.

Another benefit of stepping aside and allowing a new show to continue would be put approximately 200 people back to work.

On Thursday, June 21, ABC officially confirmed that "The Conners" would be re-rebooted and that Roseanne will have zero financial or creative involvement. In a joint statement, the remaining cast members said:

"We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it's clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience."

Premiere date is fall 2018.

Roseanne also released a statement Thursday night:

"I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from the show. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved."

Here's How Tiger Woods' $20M Yacht Compares To Other Celeb Yachts

$
0
0

It's a good time for Tiger Woods' nautical publicist, since his reportedly $20 million yacht Privacy was seen docked at the Hamptons during the US Open golf tournament over the weekend. Privacy is a generously proportioned vessel at 155 feet, but in case you're curious about how that stacks up against other celebrity yachts, here's the short version: Bigger than some, smaller than others.

To get a more detailed sense of how Privacy compares to other famous-by-association yachts of the rich and famous, Business Insider compiled a size chart doing just that. It shows that Woods' yacht is near the top of the celeb yacht hierarchy, at least in terms of size. At 155 feet, it surpasses the 138-foot motor yacht owned by comedian Jerry Seinfeld, as well as the relatively modest 74-foot craft Nicole Kidman has to her name. Venus, the motor yacht currently possessed by Laurene Powell Jobs (and which used to belong to Steve Jobs before his death) beats it by over a hundred feet though, measuring in at 256 feet. And even that falls well short of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's Octopus, reportedly a chart-topping 416 feet.

Joe Raedle/Getty Images

Of course, it's extremely possible, or even likely, you've never been close to any yachts of this size to give you an appropriate sense of scale. But you can still get a sense of how large these yachts (including Tiger's Privacy) really are by comparing their lengths to some famous landmarks. For example, the famous Hollywood Sign measures 352 feet across, making it longer than all of the aforementioned yachts except the Octopus. Don't feel too bad for Tiger or the size of his yacht though, since it still safely beats out the 151-foot Statue of Liberty and a 105-foot blue whale.

In the end, it wasn't the size of Privacy but the comfort and convenience it offered him as a way to escape the "tournament scene" during the US Open, and eliminate concerns about traffic and other transit issues.

Billionaire Jeweler To The Stars Seeking Asylum In London, On The Run Again

Nirav Modi is a jeweler whose designs have been worn by Hollywood and Bollywood stars. He's also a fugitive from the law in India due to his involvement in defrauding Punjab National Bank of $1.8 billion. Two bank employees were accused of initiating fraudulent loans to companies tied to billionaire jeweler Nirav Modi. It is believed that Modi used fake bank letters of understanding to get loans from Punjab National Bank.

Indian police issued a warrant for Modi's arrest. His stores in India have been closed, his bank accounts, cars, and other assets have been seized. Five executives at his company have been arrested. More than $850,000 worth of gold, diamonds, precious metals and stone jewelry were seized from Modi and his companies.

Modi's fall from grace is stunning. Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley have worn his jewelry. Priyanka Chopra advertises his brand.

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images

There has been a global manhunt for Modi. It was previously believed he had run off to New York City or Dubai. Now, it turns out that he fled to London, where he is seeking asylum from "political persecution"—or at least he was. As soon as reports hit the wires that he was in London, he jumped on a plan and fled again. He is now believed to be in Brussels. His brother is a Belgian national.

Modi's passport was flagged by the Indian government. However, it is believed he is traveling on a passport from Singapore, since no movement has been logged on his Indian passport since March 31st.

It is expected that the Indian government will seek to place Modi under an Interpol red corner notice, which is, for all intents and purposes, an international arrest warrant. Modi would not be safe from authorities anywhere in the world.

The bank scam he was involved in is the biggest ever in India.
